Orlando furioso: plot of the third edition (canti XXXVI-XLVI)

XXXVI. Clash between Marfisa and Bradamante. Bradamante and Ruggiero find each other once more and have a moment of intimacy. Marfisa, Bradamante and Ruggiero before Atlante’s tomb, who reveals that Marfisa and Ruggiero are brothers. XXXXVII. Three women in shortened dresses tell the story of Drusilla and Marganorre. Bradamante, Ruggiero and Marfisa destroy Marganorre. XXXVIII. Ruggiero goes to the pagan camp. Bradamante and Marfisa are in the Christian camp. Here Marfisa is baptised. On his way back to France, Astolfo with magic creates a group of Christian knights. XXXIX. In Africa Astolfo frees Brandimarte, Dudone and Olivieri and creates a fleet with which to cross over to France. Astolfo meets Orlando and returns him his sanity. The Saracens retreat from France towards Africa. XL. Agramante repairs to an island. He challenges the Christians to a final battle. Ruggiero returns to Africa to help the Saracens. XLI. A storm surprises Ruggiero at sea. Ruggiero is shipwrecked on a small island where he is baptised by a hermit. Battle of Lipadusa. Fight between Orlando, Brandimarte and Olivieri against Agramante, Gradasso and Sobrino. XLII. The Christians win. Death of Agramante, Gradasso and Brandimarte. Rinaldo embarks upon a journey to the Orient, he enters the woods on the Ardennes and drinks at the fount of lovelessness. It is thus that his love for Angelica ends. He enters and visits the palace of the knight of  Nappo. XLIII. Rinaldo sails along the Po and hears the boson’s story  about Argia and Adonio. Having crossed Italy, Ruggiero arrives at Lipadusa. Firdiligi weeps at the funeral of Brandimarte. XLIV. Astolfo frees the hippogryph. Orlando, Rinaldo, Astolfo, Ruggiero, Bradamante and Marfisa return to Paris. Rinaldo promises his sister Bradamante to Ruggiero. But the father had promised her to Leone, son of the Greek emperor. Ruggiero goes to fight against the Greeks. XLV. Ruggiero, captured by the emperor, is freed by Leone. Disguised as Leone, Ruggiero fights Bradamante and defeats her. Marfisa and other knights do not however want Bradamante to marry Leone. XLVI. The ship of the poem arrives in harbour and the poet is greeted by many friends. Leone liberally concedes to the marriage between Ruggiero and Bradamante. Rodomonte disturbs the wedding and there is a duel in which the last Saracen hero dies.
