Dante bibliographies and specialist journals
The bibliography relating to Dante is enormous, with new publications constantly being added. It contains a number of essential consultation tools, such as surveys, encyclopaedias and specialist journals that provide the main historical references to the huge body of publications on Dante, and facilitate access to information on recent research. While the worthy volumes of the Bibliografia dantesca by P. Colomb de Batines (Prato, 1845-1846) are still useful, the more recent publications include: the four-volume Bibliografia analitica degli scritti su Dante 1950-1970, edited by Enzo Esposito (Florence, 1990); the helpful volumes (issues LX and LXIV) of the periodical Studi Danteschi, edited by Leonella Coglievina, with an analytical and reasoned Bibliografia dantesca relating to 1972-1984, now available and regularly updated at www.danteonline.it; the entry on Alighieri Dante in the “BiGLI. Bibliografia Generale della Lingua e della Letteratura Italiana” edited by Enrico Malato, which has offered almost complete bibliographic information on Dante since 1991. Selective bibliographic surveys with annotations and reviews can be found in La Rassegna della Letteratura italiana and in the Rivista di studi danteschi. An exhaustive description on vernacular lexis, the cultural world and Dante’s reception is offered by the six-volume Enciclopedia Dantesca edited by Umberto Bosco (Rome, 1970-1978), although it requires updating. There are also numerous specialist journals, published in Italy and abroad. In addition to the historical Bullettino della Società Dantesca Italiana or the Giornale Dantesco are those still in circulation: Studi Danteschi, L’Alighieri, Rivista di studi danteschi and Dante, all published in Italy; Deutsches Dante Jahrbuch, published in Germany; Dante Studies, published in the United States; and Spain’s Tenzone.
